Catch-up

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Well, let us begin the catch-ups so be can go to business as usual as soon as possible. First off, on a personal note, the Mario carving sold, but the Yoshi chainsaw carving sold is still up for grabs. In late November, I also got an Xbox 360, bundled with Kung Fu Panda and Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures. I also recent bought Call of Duty: World at War.

Nintendo announced the release of the DSi. The new system is 12 percent thinner than the DS lite and the GBA slot is now gone. The new system will have an external 3 megapixel camera, as well as a front-facing camera, an SD slot, internal storage, and a DSi Shop(like the Wii Shop channel for the DS). The system was released in Japan on November 1, 2008, and will be released in North America in Spring of 2009.

Rather than Wii points, the DS and Wii will now have Nintendo Points. Once you buy the new points, you will have to chose whether you will use all the points for the DS shop system of the Wii Shop system; you will not be able to split the points between the new systems. The DSi will be somewhat, if not completely region locked.

Now on to homebrew, many new updates to thwart home brewers where released, but the home brewers found work arounds. The Wii Homebrew Channel turned 1.0. The DSi render all the old hombrew cards useless, but it appears that one new card, called Acekard 2i, will work on it.

Some big games that where released during Game Influence down time include: Call of Duty: World at War, Animal Crossing: City Folk(with the Wii Speak peripheral), de Blob, Wario Land: Shake It!, Guitar Hero World Tour, Chrono Trigger, Spore, Resistance 2, Fallout 3, the re-franchised Prince of Persia, and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. A personal favorite, Wrath of the Lich King, was released in November, My girlfriend gave me this for my birthday, if you think about it, it’s quite ironic.

MegaMan9PromoArt.JPG

Not much in terms of digital releases, although Mega Man 9 was released for the Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3World of Goo was also released as a Wii Ware title.

Some big games that where announced or gained a greater popularity with a future release during Game Influence’s down time include: No More Heroes 2, Resident Evil 5, Sin & Punishment 2, Sega’s The Conduit, Killzone 2, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, and games from the Wii remake program. The Wii remake program will release games from the Game Cube to the Wii, with updated controls. Games in the Wii remake program include Metroid Prime 1, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Pikmin, Mario Tennis, Chibi Robo, and Pikmin 2.

Recently, Nintendo finally provided American with a service that Europe and Japan have had for quite some time, Club Nintendo. Club Nintendo launched December 15. Before the service’s launch, Nintendo confirmed that Club Nintendo allowed users to earn Coins for registering Nintendo products and completing surveys, redeem Coins for limited edition Rewards, earn a set amount of Coins each year to gain Gold and Platinum status, create a Family Account and invite members of your family to join, and register your newly purchased Wii console or Nintendo DS on Club Nintendo and extend your warranty.

Well, I’m sure I missed a lot of news, If I remember anything I missed, I’ll try to bring it up laiter.

Manhunt 2 Will Finally Final See the UK

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Manhunt 2 will finally be released in the UK, that’s right no more appeals
or bans. The BBFC took Video Appeals Committee ruling, but were finally shot down. The game will receive a 18 certificate for release.

But for those of you in the UK thinking that you might want to pick up the game, I strongly suggest that you don’t, the game is censored to the point were it lost it’s identity. with out the gory stress releasing murder scenes, it’s just a heart racing Splinter Cell clone.

Commodore 64 Coming the Virtual Console

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

c64logo.jpg

It appears that the Commodore 64 will be joining the ranks of the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo 64, Sega’s Mega Drive/Genesis, TurboGrafx-16, TurboGrafx-CD, SNK’s Neo Geo, MSX, and Sega Master System, and Game Gear as emulated consoles/systems available on the Wii.

64gslogo.gif

One can only hope that not only games will be available, but the Commodore BASIC V2.0 will also be accessible. The Commodore BASIC V2.0 allowed you to enter code to create games, taking hours if not days to do. But I would assume, unlike other sites reporting on this, Nintendo would only allow the Commodore 64 Games System(a cartridge-based game console version of the Commodore 64 home computer). The Commodore 64 Games System didn’t have Basic, and rarely used a separately purchased keyboard.

Nintendo plans to charge 500 Points for the games, and has only been announced for the European Wii population. Hopefully we see a world wild release.

Medal of Honor Heroes 2, No Online and No Multiplayer in Australia

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

256px-MoHH2BoxArt.jpg

Medal of Honor Heroes 2, has had some problems with inaccurate details on the box in couple of regions. First, when I bought Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, the box said the game offered a four player split screen and multiplayer arcade modes, which it did not, I wasn’t contacted for a refund, but then again I didn’t register the game. And I bought the game for it’s online, and not it’s multiplayer. Really the game’s main feature is the online multiplayer, and the Australian version of the game is being striped of that in addition to not having a four player split screen and multiplayer arcade modes. I can’t see the game being at all successfully in Australia as an only one player game. EA is offering a refund to those tricked into buying the game, after idiotically trusting the back of a video game’s description on its box.

Medal of Honor Heroes 2 for Wii does not support online functionality in Australia. We made an error in the documentation and marketing materials. We are very sorry to have caused confusion for our customers. We will provide a refund to anyone in Australia who wishes to return the game to EA because of the lack of online functionality.

I don’t know why EA’s making all these mistakes. I think there is only two possible reasons. Either this is all just a test of consumer’s willingness to keep a game after realizing they aren’t getting what they were promised, or there just idiots. EA, I’m waiting for your response.

SSBB: Future Updates, Introduction Movie, Brawl, First Songs, and Vault

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

On January 28, the DOJO opened up “The Vault” in a matter of words. Actually the Vault entry gave us a lot of what we already know, but did offer a few new nuggets of Information. Multiplayer brawls, Home-Run Contest, Target Smash, and Cruel Brawls are recordable. And Super Smash Bros. Brawl has a “Chronicle”, which list Games from Nintendo’s past, which will gradually fill in as you obtain stickers and other things related to those games.

On January 29, the DOJO was updated with a look at what Music will be available in the My Music section of the game, right of the bat, check it out if you wish.

On January 30, The DOJO was updated with an entry called “Brawl”. Nothing important, just a little look at the basics of starting a Brawl, and a conformation of Ness and Marth’s inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Today the DOJO gave us two entries; the first was a video that gives a quick sample of all the modes in Brawl. The second explained the future of the DOJO. As you may know, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is already out in Japan, and we still have to wait more then a month. The DOJO will still give some updates on unlockable characters, hidden stages, and additional features yet to be explained in Brawl. The DOJO will most likely become a place to find a sort of guide for the game.

United States Version of Brawl has less Masterpieces than Japan?

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Not only will America’s be shafted by Nintendo with Brawl seeing a release date more than a month after Japan, but it appears that Nintendo is also not giving us some classics on the newly announced Masterpieces, specifically Fire Emblem and Mother 2. Below is two pictures released on the Japanese DOJO and Not the American DOJO.

Vii 2

ViiConsole.png

The Fake Wii, the Vii, is getting an upgrade. If you Don’t know what a Vii is, it’s either the the Roman number for seven or it’s a low quality system that was released a while back that took advantage of the Wii’s hype. The Vii contained 11 original internal games, much like those cheep little knock-off, plug-in and play game systems you can buy at your local Walmart for 20 bucks. The Vii containes the following games: Happy Tennis, Catch Fish, Bowling, Alacrity Golf, Table Tennis, Smart Dart, Fry Egg, Bird Knight, Fever Move, Come On, Fantasy Baseball, and Free Craps.

Vii1.jpg

Apparently the Vii, did get some success from exploiting Wii-mania, because the company that made it(I don’t know who), is now releasing the Vii 2, is a little less crappy console. The Vii has two buttons in the front of the system, “Power” and “Reset”, much like a NES. The Vii 2 has been formatted for NTSC & PAL regions. The Vii remote has “3 axes G-SENSOR” and “10 different sounds.” The Vii 2 has an expansion slot for adding 7 more games.

Rockstar’s Manhunt 2 Appeal Against BBFC Ban Finlay Successfully

Friday, December 14th, 2007

mhs4

Remember that old Rockstar ban appeal? Well it appears that Rockstar, the Publisher of Manhunt 2, appeal to the Video Appeals Committee to overturn the BBFC’s decision not to rate the controversial game on two separate instances was successful. The Video Appeals Committee voted 4-to-3 in Rockstar’s Favor.

Although Rockstar did win against the BBFC’s in reversing the decision to not rate the game, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the game will ever see the light of day, the BBFC still can still do some things to make the appeal useless, and can still technically ban it. If and when the BBFC reviews the game I can assure you that their biases against Rockstar will come into play.

The BBFC twice rejected Manhunt 2 for its focus on varied and cumulative killings.

We recognise that rejection is a very serious step, in which the desire of publishers to market their games, and that of gamers to buy them, must be balanced against the public interest, including the full range of possible harm risks to vulnerable individuals and to any children who may be wrongly exposed to such games.

Such balancing judgements are inevitably complex and multi-faceted, and are made only after very careful consideration of the contents of a work. We played Manhunt 2 for well over 30 hours prior to our decision.

The Board recognizes that the available research findings on the effects of video games (including positive as well as harmful effects) are varied and contested. But we continue to believe that a broad approach to the possible risks is needed, which goes beyond purely behavioral harm, and which also takes account of other possible effects on the sensibilities and attitudes of individuals.

Personal I believe that the BBFC is grossly overstepped there area of power, the whole system is flawed. It’s illegal to supply any recording(Game) that has not been specifically certified BBFC, the BBFC has the responsibility to review all games. If the BBFC refuses to review a video game, it should be considered to not be a video game, because the BBFC has the responsibility to review video game. Simply but if the BBFC doesn’t rate a game, It shouldn’t be considered a video game, than therefor doesn’t need a rating, and should be considered to be like a computer software title or operating system, which do not have such ratings. I challenge you to fight that logic.
